Newly renovated and restored to keep its original 19th century charm, but upgraded with modern luxuries, Hotel Moments Budapest is the Continental Group’s newest hotel in Budapest’s city centre.
I arrived at Hotel Moments Budapest in the late evening. The lighting in the entrance and lobby was dim, but not dark. The lighting was set just so that the ambiance felt as though the interior was lit with candles. The white marble reflected the light to brighten the space and I felt as though I stepped back in time to a century of women wearing ball gowns and chivalrous men. The blue frescoes on the ceiling welcome the guests with grandeur and class setting the tone for the service, excellence and elegant standard expected at Hotel Moments Budapest.
I had high expectations for this hotel. I was approaching nearly one month of travel when I checked in. Needless to say, I was looking forward to a bit of luxury. The lobby was clean and decorated with modern furniture, but I did not let myself get starry-eyed. All too often hotel lobbies are clean, modern and inviting while the rooms are shabby, dark and in desperate need of updates.
When I found my room my jaw dropped: spacious, clean, modern, inviting, warm and luxurious. The pièce de résistance was surely the king size bed. Already this hotel had surpassed my expectations and I hadn’t even eaten breakfast yet!
A king size bed waited for me when I arrived in my Superior room with a large fresco as the backdrop. There was so much space in this room I felt it was being wasted due to so few belongings with me. The bathroom was equipped with all the necessities and a spacious shower with waterfall shower head. I quickly put aside my days of couchsurfing and hostels to bask in fresh linens, a private bathroom and reliable Wi-Fi!
Hotel Moments Budapest, and my room, continued to take my breath away in the morning when I was finally able to take in the view from the room through two windows. I felt like nobility looking down onto Andrássy út – one of the most luxurious streets in Budapest and known as the Champs Élysées of the east.
Ever an early riser, there were few people in the restaurant for breakfast when I descended and browsed the selection spread. Truly, one could not want for anything at the breakfast buffet. The chefs cater to any and every nationality’s typical breakfast, as well as most dietary restrictions (i.e. gluten free and vegan options are available by the plenty). I was even amused by the champagne bottle service. I suppose it’s never too early to celebrate!
Fine Bistro also serves up lunch and dinner to anyone looking for authentic Hungarian dishes with an artistic flare. I was recommended the makos guba – a traditional bread pudding with poppy seeds – but the modern take is made as a thicker pudding without the bread. It was delicious!
You must try the enomatic machine if you’re into wine. The enomatic allows you to taste a variety of wines – either white or red – that will always be fresh.
My time spent at Hotel Moments Budapest was somewhat of a mini-getaway from my travels: I read in the lobby, enjoyed complimentary coffee at any time of day in the lounge, and steamed in the sauna for true relaxation and contemplation of my upcoming exploration of Budapest with the 72hr Budapest City Card.
The truly remarkable aspect of the hotel is the original marble flooring and frescoes decorating and adorning the hotel. When the builders and designers worked on the hotel in its initial stages, they uncovered many wondrous finds. They worked hard to restore the building’s original glory.
The Wellness Center in the basement provides guests with a cardio room gym, lockers, sauna, showers and lounge chairs. It’s truly the perfect way to start or end anyone’s day.
While most of the corridors and rooms are carpeted, there is hardwood flooring in certain rooms on each level to accommodate guests traveling with their pets. Alternatively, it’s a great feature if you would prefer an allergen-free room.
The hotel’s location makes it easy to access from any part of the city. It is about a 30-45 minute taxi ride into the city from the airport, or within walking distance from the Deak Ferenc metro station.
Hotel Moment Budapest is a great hotel as a home-base for a girls’ weekend exploring Budapest or a romantic couple’s getaway. The hotel staff are happy to please their guests by catering to most requests.
